Smoke is such a wonderful thing, isn't it :D
"Stop smoking, you idiot. You'll kill yourself!!"

No photoshopping, just cropped the thing a bit because I really didn't like the composition, and put up the highlights a bit.

Canon 400D + 17-85 F4 IS USM lens
Two Canon430EX Speedlites, each from one side, shooting up and towards the camera lens.
I didn't manage to keep the background totally black but will try better the next time.

Comments appreciated!

That's a great spiral. Looks really good. I shot some smoke earlier this year (also with a Canon 400D). Perhaps I'll post the results here one day on dA. I LOVE smoke shots.

Me too. Thanks! :)

For me, the smoke drifts a little too close to the left edge of the frame - my eye wants to keep following the movement of it, but the photograph ends. Love the colours in the smoke. I don't think you need to worry too much about the background - it's black enough for my tastes. There's enough contrast between the subject and the background.

Thank you very much for the constructive comment. You're the first one to comment the photo in such way, and I like it very much. The first thing (eye following the movement)...you're tottaly right. That bothers me aswell.

No probs - I'm glad I could be of some help. Keep up the excellent work. ;-)
